Canadian Vacation Destinations
Have you ever wondered what is out there that the travel brouchers don't tell you about. Canada is full of fun filled spots just waiting to be visited. Here are some of the ones I have been to. Gander, Newfoundland : This is where many of the planes were diverted to during the 9/11 terroist attacks. The friendly hospitality that those travelers enjoyed is second nature to the people who live in Gander, the surrounding area, and all of Newfoundland that I have seen. I am a born and bred prairie girl who married a "Newfie" and have been welcomed into a culture that is similar to my farming roots, but untouched by the harshness of 21st century urbanization the way the area around my farm has been. From Gander you can access many communities and coastal islands that have a deep and rich history, such as Change Islands, my husbands home community. http://canada.travelall.com/nf/att/central.htm will give you lots of ideas. Peace River, Alberta A little out of the way from major areas of Alberta, but it is beautiful there. Located about 7 hours north of Edmonton this area has beautiful campgrounds and nature is everywhere. After spending 4 months there one summer I had to retrain myself to look for other cars, not wildlife on the roads. Just outside of Peace River is Grimshaw which has a truck museum which is worth checking out. The Peace Country is definitly worth the trip for those who are looking to spend some time with nature. To find out more information about Peace River and the surrounding area go to www.discoverthepeacecountry.com/htmlpages/peaceriver.html. Boissevain, MB Located about an hour south of Brandon. Boissevain is a small community with a big heart and lots of stuff to do. Located just 16 miles (25 KM) north of the US border they are just minutes from the beautiful International Peace Gardens. In those 16 miles lies the Turtle Mountains an area which has its own tourism center. Being raised on a farm in Central Alberta only 2 hours from the Rocky Mountains, I bugged my friends from Boissevain endlessly about their "mountains", however even though they may not be what I am used to, they are beautiful and the perfect place for people who love camping. For more information about what this area has to offer, check out www.boissevain.ca. |
